GitLab: Migration to new Container Registry Metadata-Database

GitLab comes with a new Metadata Database for the Container Registry that offers improved performance and new features that are not available in the legacy metadata storage.

We'll migrate all existing Managed GitLab installations to the new Metadata Database. This requires at least a restart of each GitLab installation followed by a one-time migration of the existing registry data.

The duration of this migration depends on the amount of existing data in the container registry that needs to be processed and can span from just a few minutes up approximately an hour. During this migration the registry is in read-only mode, but GitLab itself remains fully usable.

Managed Server Version 6: Introduce netdata system monitoring, scheduled 7 years ago

With this change, we introduce a new way to monitor your servers load through Netdata. Netdata is a interactive, realtime web dashboard running on each server. You can reach its webinterface at http://localhost:19999.

To connect from your local computer, either forward port 19999 through SSH (ssh <hostname> -L 19999:localhost:19999), or add a reverse proxy website forwarding requests to http://localhost:19999 (make sure to enable HTTPS and password protection).

In a next step, we will collect those metrics centrally to have them available through cockpit.

On Tuesday 26.03.2019 we will migrate our proxy server (proxy.snowflakehosting.ch) to a new server. Thanks to the redundant design, we do not expect any outage.
