Mailcow: Changes to Email Alias Forwarding

To improve email deliverability, we will restrict email aliases from forwarding messages to external domains.

Why this change?

Forwarding emails to external providers can cause authentication issues (particularly SPF), resulting in messages being rejected or classified as spam.

What does this mean?

  • Existing aliases will continue to work as usual, unless modified.
  • Forwarding to locally hosted domains remains unaffected.
  • Creating or modifying aliases to forward to external domains will be restricted.
  • External forwarding will remain possible through an alternative method.

Version 8 Managed Server Version 9: Syntax Error in Bash Configuration

This morning, we merged a change to the default shell configuration (~/.zshrc) into all managed servers version 9. This change was picked up by all affected servers, with their next scheduled provisioning run starting gradually at 13:00. The used syntax was valid and tested in zsh, but invalid in bash. In all cases based on bash, for example in certain scripts or cronjobs, the configuration change led to a syntax error:

bash: /home/website/.zshenv: line 92: syntax error: unexpected end of file

For the time being, we rolled back our configuration change and will test everything more in detail. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
